About the Project

The objective of our project is to promote the preservation and institutionalised development of the culture of the Romani people, Europe’s largest non-territorial minority population, by developing a series of textbooks, dictionaries and audio-visual learning aids mapping and presenting, beyond language variations of Romani people, its common linguistic traits and clusters, standard deviations, as well as the history and cultural components of this particular heritage. We wish to achieve this by building on available works and collections, developing these and promoting their interactive use in the educational context.

The aim of the work is to disseminate a general overview of the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Romani people, provide insight into its linguistic variations and common traits in order to ensure language preservation, a wider use of mother-tongue in minority communities and provide systematic support for Romani language learners in Europe.

At the moment the EU Institutions can not communicate with the Roma since there’s not a uniform, adjusted language; except English or majority languages. The deficiency of the literacy is also a big problem. The essence of the project outputs would be the compensation of it.

Our specifically aims at supporting the Romani language in a difficult period and restoring its European dimension by making its riches and resources equally available to home speakers of its various local varieties in the participating countries. This language will therefore function anew as a wide instrument of communication, beyond borders, whereas the cultural dimension of the course will enable Romani function further as an irreplaceable bearer of cultural identity. In an intercultural educational perspective, ensuring formal access to this language for heirs of other cultures will strengthen its recognition and increase mutual respect between the various communities living in Europe.

Hopefully the 5 year programmes real aim can be that the ready substances will reach those (teachers, sociologists, etc.) who can send the adjusted language to the indirect target – Roma – group then. Because a neological process does not take place under 5 year period.
